Our Fantastic Humane Society Field Trip

Hello Everybody!

We had a fantastic week!

For starters, we began researching about Hearing and Sound. We used a website to simulate the way the world sounds for people who have mild, moderate and severe hearing loss. Here is the link to the website we used https://www.starkey.com/hearing-loss-simulator. After, we asked many questions about hearing loss, and hearing and sound. Sign language is a way for people who are deaf to communicate. We watched some videos about the American Sign Language alphabet.

Second, we went on a field trip to the Humane Society! When we got there, we watched a presentation about reptiles and amphibians. Then, we got to pet a crested gecko named Gurdy. Finally, we went on a tour of the Humane Society and saw furry bunnies, fluffy cats, cute dogs, scary snakes and active turtles. Here are some pictures of our day.

We also have a student teacher named Mrs. Premji! She is from University of Calgary and she will be working with us until April 20th. Welcome Mrs. Premji!

Have a lovely Spring Break!

Using the Green Screen

Hi everyone!

We had a busy week preparing for our Celebration of Learning.

First, we started using the green screen to film our plays. Mr. Southworth spent time in our classroom teaching us how to use the green screen, how to change the background using images from Safari, and the app iMovie. Here are some quotes about our experience:

- "I liked how we could change the background because it made it look real." -M
- "I enjoyed filming our scripts." -O
- "I can't wait to see all of our plays on the Celebration of Learning!" -N
- "It was really fun practicing our scripts." -G
- "It was really fun filming our parts." -A

Next, we used the computers to type our artist biographies and artist statements. We will share these with you at our Celebration of Learning on March 15th from 6:00-7:30. It is an open house, so come anytime our school gallery is open.

Please make sure to return field trip forms for the Humane Society and swimming!

Thank you for looking at our blog. Please comment below.

See you next week!

Pink Shirt Day

Good morning everybody!

We had a magnificent week! This was probably one of our busiest weeks ever!

First of all, we did wind and weight tests with our bridges. We discovered that our bridges are very strong! Some bridges held up to 13 800 grams! We used a blowdryer to test if our bridges could stand during gentle and strong winds, such as a hurricane or tornado. Some of our bridges survived without any movement, but others moved in the wind.

Second, we spent lots of time this week working on our fables scripts. We typed them out on GoogleDocs. We printed the scripts, and practiced! Remember, it is homework to be practicing our scripts, so that we are ready to work with Mr. Southworth and the green screen next week. We are excited to share our performances with you at our Celebration of Learning on March 15th from 6:00-7:30.

Third, on Wednesday we celebrated Pink Shirt Day! Pink Shirt Day is about anti-bullying and being kind. Here are some acts of kindness from our class this week.
- "S. helped me clean the class."- J
- "J. is so nice to me." -G
- "Whenever I am lonely, the class is there to play with me." -K
- "M. always plays with me." -T
- "J. always helps me with my spelling mistakes." -O

This was our Math Problem Monday this week! Can you solve this challenge? So far, we have found 3 possible answers.

Please return Humane Society Field Trip forms ASAP! Have a warm and cozy weekend!
